The Spiraling Cost
of Natural Foods for Dogs - How to Save £s
With increases in raw ingredient/manufacturing and
transport costs there has been a noticeable increase in the price
of pet food - and as dogs eat a lot more (on average) than cats,
it's the dog owner that is currently suffering.
The main losers seem to be the companies that use
a lot of rice in their recipes, though no doubt even the cheap and
cheeerful diets based on wheat are feeling the pinch.
That doesn't mean that you can't look around for alternatives
for your cat food, but maybe at the moment you can more easily absorb
the price hikes!
A quick look at current prices (June 2008) shows popular
brands of 'natural' complete food for adult dogs to be now well
over £40 for a 15kg bag.
James Wellbeloved .......................................£41.99
Burns Pet Nutrition ........................................£41.99
(from July)
Nutro Holistic Choice (13.5kg) .......................£41.99
Natural Dog Food Company.......................... £35
No doubt others will be following suit, so it seems
a good idea to look at what's available as a suitable alternative
and a more realistic price!
Here's 3 suggestions for a healthy natural diet at
a more affordable price - I've no doubt that there are more around
(check out pet shop own brands,
which are often made in the same factory as the better known brand
foods)!
All these are good quality recipes and worth a try.
If you can't get them locally then they are all available online.
