Dog Treats
Review
First the Bad News!
Let's get one thing clear before we start. Treats
are not an essential part of the nutrition of our dogs. Dogs manage
very well without them and there's some good reasons not to feed
them, namely
1) Most are full of poor quality ingredients including colours,
flavours and preservatives which add nothing to the well-being of
your dog.
2) They are expensive, lb for lb compared with dog food kibble.
3) The habit of using cheese or pieces of cooked sausage
is bad as they are full of fat, adding to the saturated fat loading
of the diet.
4) Even natural treats are nothing more than watered down versions
of dog food extruded as bones and charged at exorbitant prices.
Don't believe me? Well, check these examples out.

Top Treats
OK, here's a few suggestions for natural treats. If you are not
bothered about natural ingredients then choose from the hundreds
of other products available in your pet shop. All I would say is
that if you are feeding a good quality pet food then there is little
sense in feeding a cheap poor qualit treat.
Personally I would recommend the top two options as best value!

Small pieces of carrot or broccoli stalk are naturally sweet,
contain vitamins and antioxidants and most dogs love that
sweet crunch |
Very little if the thick broccoli stalk or
top and tail of a carrot is normally thrown away!
